English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) services help multilingual students achieve academic success through individualized language development instruction. More specifically, ESOL: 

• Develops multilingual learners’ academic language and literacy skills.
• Fosters multilingual learners’ collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Supports multilingual learners’ access to advanced academics and appropriate special services.
• Provides learning environments that build on students’ diverse academic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds.
• Promotes the active participation of multilingual learners and their families in the school community.
